What Are SmartFields (and Why They Matter)
SmartFields in Plannerly are intelligent placeholders that you can insert into document templates to automatically pull in project-specific information.
They help you:
- Avoid manual find and replace
- Standardize documents across all projects
- Keep information accurate and automatically up to date
How to Use SmartFields
- Open your document template project
Go to the Docs module and open the document you want to edit or turn into a template. - Insert SmartFields into your content
Click the{}icon in the toolbar (SmartFields menu) and choose from available fields such as:- Project Name
- Client Name
- Version
- Discipline
- Document Status
- And more
- Save as a template
Once configured, save the document as a Template so the SmartFields can be reused across multiple projects.
Example
Instead of writing:
"This BIM Execution Plan is for the Springfield Medical Center project."
Use a SmartField:
"This BIM Execution Plan is for the {Project Name} project."
When this document is added to a project, the SmartField automatically fills in and displays:
"This BIM Execution Plan is for the Springfield Medical Center project."
