In Docs, taking something out of a document doesn't mean losing it. Archive a section, a category or a whole document and it leaves the document but keeps its place in the hierarchy, its content and its history - so you can bring it back whenever you need it, or delete it for good once you're sure.
Archive a section or category
- A section: open the section's three-dot menu and choose Archive.
- A category and everything in it: choose Archive category and all sections. Plannerly lists what will be archived before anything moves.
Archive a whole document
- Open the document tab's Actions menu (the three dots) and choose Archive.
- Confirm. The document's categories and sections keep their hierarchy, so they can be restored exactly as they were.
Plannerly switches on archived content for you straight after, so you can see where the document went.
Find archived content
- Open Filters in Docs.
- Switch on Show archived sections ("Show archived content in its original document hierarchy.").
- An Archived Sections panel opens at the top of the document, with a count. Archived content keeps its original hierarchy there.
Archived content is hidden until someone switches the filter on, and only editors can show it. To narrow down what you see in other ways, see filtering document sections.
Restore it, or delete it for good
- Restore: open an archived section's or document's menu and choose Restore. It goes back where it was.
- Delete permanently: from the same menu, choose Delete permanently and confirm twice. This can't be undone, so archive first and delete only once you're sure.

Questions about archiving in Docs
What is the difference between archiving and deleting?
Archiving takes content out of the document but keeps it, with its hierarchy and history, ready to restore. Delete permanently removes it for good and can't be undone.
Can I get back a section I deleted permanently?
No. Permanent deletion can't be undone, which is why Plannerly asks you to confirm twice. Archive anything you might need again.
Where does an archived document go?
While Show archived sections is switched on, its tab stays with the other documents and its menu offers Restore and Delete permanently. Switch the filter off and the tab is hidden.
Who can see archived sections?
Archived content is hidden by default. Only editors can switch on Show archived sections to see and restore it.
