TL;DR - Open Settings, then the File Manager tab, then File Name Standard. Add a part for each piece of the name, pick a separator, check the Example and select Save. Every file then shows its standard name, such as BWL-ARC-AR-042.
Who this is for
Project managers and anyone with the Manage Files permission can change the standard. Other members can see it but it is read-only for them.
Why it matters
When every team names files its own way, matching deliveries to requests becomes somebody's whole job. ISO 19650 asks the project to agree how information containers are named. A standard name that is built from fixed parts sorts properly, and lets Plannerly match an incoming file to the request for it.
Set up the File Name Standard
- In File Manager, select the gear button, Settings. The drawer opens.
- Choose the File Manager tab and find File Name Standard.
- Under Parts, select Add part for each piece of the name. For example: Project ID, Author (Team Abbr.), a file information column such as Discipline, and Unique Number (3 digits).
- Pick a Separator, for example a hyphen.
- Read the Example line. It shows exactly how a name will look, for example BWL-ARC-AR-042.
- Select Save.

The parts you can choose include Extension, Version, Created By (Initials), Created By (Team Abbr.), Created By (Team Role Abbr.), Author (Team Abbr.), Project ID, Project Name, Unique Number and any file information column your project has added (such as Discipline or Stage).
See the standard names in the list
- After saving, files show their standard name in File Manager, with the original file name beneath it.
- Under Primary name in File Manager choose Naming-standard name or Imported file name. This is your own display choice for this project and does not rename anyone's file.

If it doesn't work
The Example shows a placeholder number or a missing part
The pieces are read from the project. If Project ID shows a placeholder, the project has no ID of its own yet. If a team part is empty, that team needs an abbreviation. If a column part is empty, check its values have abbreviations.
The File Name Standard section is read-only
The message reads "These file settings are read-only for your role. Ask a project manager to update them or give you Manage Files permission." Ask for that permission.
Existing files did not change name
The standard name is a display name Plannerly builds from file information. Choose Naming-standard name under Primary name in File Manager to see it, and make sure the file's information is filled in.
I cannot find Settings
Settings is the gear icon at the end of the File Manager toolbar. It has no text label on a wide screen.
Common questions
What is the ISO 19650 file naming convention?
ISO 19650 asks each project to agree a naming convention for information containers, so names are unique and sortable. The standard describes the idea; the exact fields come from the project's information standard or national annex. In Plannerly you build that convention from parts and a separator.
Does Plannerly rename my files?
No. It builds a standard name from each file's information and shows it. Your uploaded file name is kept, and you choose which one shows first.
Can I change the naming standard later?
Yes, with Manage Files. Names update from the file information, so changing the parts changes how every file displays.
Does the naming standard help with file requests?
Yes. When you request files from a list, Plannerly can detect or build the pattern, and an uploaded file is matched to its request by name, including the standard name.
