TL;DR - In Scope, select the plus in the milestone header (Add Milestone) and type its name. Open Edit Milestones with the pencil to Set Dates and pick a Color. Every row then lines up under the same dated milestones.
Who this is for
People whose role lets them manage milestones, usually project managers and information managers. Everyone else on the project sees the milestones but cannot change them.
Why it matters
When the next milestone date depends on which email you read, teams plan against different deadlines. Agreeing the milestones once, at the start, gives everyone one set of dates, and every task, filter and export hangs off them.
Add a milestone
- In Scope, find the milestone header above the grid. If it is collapsed, expand it.
- Select the plus at the right end (tooltip Add Milestone). A new column appears with its name ready to edit.
- Type the name straight away, for example Detailed Design, and press Enter.
- Repeat for the next one, for example Construction.

Set dates and colors
- Click a milestone, or hover it and select the pencil (Edit Milestones). The Edit Milestones window opens with a row per milestone.
- On the milestone's row, select No Dates, the Set Dates control. A calendar opens.
- Click the first day, then the last day, and select Done.
- Pick a Color if you want the column to stand out. Use Clear color to remove it.
- Close the window. The milestone now shows its dates.

The same window also lets you add a description, Duplicate a milestone with its tasks into a new independent one, Delete it, and bundle related milestones into a group (for example a phase or a discipline) so a long timeline stays easy to scan.
If it doesn't work
I can't see the plus to add a milestone
Adding and editing milestones needs permission to manage milestones. Ask a project manager or your account admin to check your role.
"This project has reached the maximum number of milestones allowed"
Some older plans cap the number of milestones per project. An upgrade window opens when you reach it; on the current Pro plan the number is not capped.
The dates will not save
Select the first and last day on the calendar, then select Done before you close the window. If the milestone still shows No Dates, open it again and repeat.
The new milestone is called "Milestone 2"
Plannerly gives it a default name. Click the name straight away to type your own, or open Edit Milestones and change Title.
Common questions
How do I add a milestone in Plannerly?
In Scope, select the plus in the milestone header (Add Milestone), type the name and press Enter. Open Edit Milestones with the pencil to set its dates.
How do I set the date of a milestone?
Open Edit Milestones, select No Dates on the milestone row, click the first and last day on the calendar and select Done.
Can I copy a milestone along with its tasks?
Yes. In Edit Milestones, use Duplicate on the milestone. It creates a new independent milestone with copies of its Scope tasks.
Do I need milestones before I can add tasks?
Yes, a task sits at one row and one milestone. A new Scope starts with one milestone, so you can begin straight away and add the rest as you plan.
