When you upload a model file into Plannerlyāwhether itās a Revit (.rvt), DWF (.dwf), IFC (.ifc), DWG (.dwg), DWFx (.dwfx), or one of the 67 other supported file typesāyouāll see a prompt asking:
āProcess now?ā
This step is optional (required only if you are checking the model against the information requirements), but hereās what happens if you choose to processāand how long it typically takes.
š What Happens When You Click Process Now?
If you click OK to process your file, Plannerly begins running a few important steps in the background to prepare your file for advanced workflows like auto-checking model properties.
Hereās what we do behind the scenes:
ā File Conversion ā your model is converted into a lightweight, web-viewable format.
š¦ Properties Store ā all model elements, properties, and values are extracted and indexed for speed.
š Requirements Check ā rules are matched and requirements are automatically checked.
š¬ Email Notification ā youāll be notified when processing is complete and ready for use.
š” Good news: Processing happens in the backgroundāso you can continue using Plannerly without interruption.
You can switch to other tasks, edit documents, manage scopes, or verify other modelsāall while your file is being processed.
ā³ How Long Does It Take?
So, how long to process a 150MB Revit file?
Typically, a 150MB Revit file takes around 5 to 20 minutes to fully processādepending on the modelās complexity.
Why the range? Because file size alone doesnāt tell the whole story.
Many 150MB files include:
š¢ Hundreds of thousands of elements
š§© Each with hundreds of properties
š And many values per property
Altogether, that means millions of data points must be:
Extracted
Processed
Indexed
And checked for compliance
This deep processing is what enables powerful features like lightning-fast model interrogation and automatic requirement validation later on.
ā ļø Heavier models with more geometry and detailed data take longerābut again, it wonāt affect your experience because everything runs in the background.
šµļø What If You Choose āNot Nowā?
Totally fine!
Even without full processing, you can:
š¶ Walk through the model in first person
š Measure elements
š§ Take cross-sections
š Browse the model tree
š Click elements to inspect their properties
āļø Use many of the interactive model viewing tools
The main difference is: auto-checking and rule matching wonāt be available until the file is processed.
š You Can Always Process It Later
Just return to the file anytime and click āProcess nowāāweāll take care of the rest and email you once itās ready.
