When you upload a model file into Plannerly—whether it’s a Revit (.rvt), DWF (.dwf), IFC (.ifc), DWG (.dwg), DWFx (.dwfx), or one of the 67 other supported file types—you’ll see a prompt asking:

ā€œProcess now?ā€

This step is optional (required only if you are checking the model against the information requirements), but here’s what happens if you choose to process—and how long it typically takes.

šŸ”„ What Happens When You Click Process Now?

If you click OK to process your file, Plannerly begins running a few important steps in the background to prepare your file for advanced workflows like auto-checking model properties.

Here’s what we do behind the scenes:

  • āœ… File Conversion – your model is converted into a lightweight, web-viewable format.

  • šŸ“¦ Properties Store – all model elements, properties, and values are extracted and indexed for speed.

  • šŸ“‹ Requirements Check – rules are matched and requirements are automatically checked.

  • šŸ“¬ Email Notification – you’ll be notified when processing is complete and ready for use.

šŸ’” Good news: Processing happens in the background—so you can continue using Plannerly without interruption.
You can switch to other tasks, edit documents, manage scopes, or verify other models—all while your file is being processed.

ā³ How Long Does It Take?

So, how long to process a 150MB Revit file?

Typically, a 150MB Revit file takes around 5 to 20 minutes to fully process—depending on the model’s complexity.

Why the range? Because file size alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

Many 150MB files include:

  • šŸ”¢ Hundreds of thousands of elements

  • 🧩 Each with hundreds of properties

  • šŸ“Š And many values per property

Altogether, that means millions of data points must be:

  • Extracted

  • Processed

  • Indexed

  • And checked for compliance

This deep processing is what enables powerful features like lightning-fast model interrogation and automatic requirement validation later on.

āš ļø Heavier models with more geometry and detailed data take longer—but again, it won’t affect your experience because everything runs in the background.

šŸ•µļø What If You Choose ā€œNot Nowā€?

Totally fine!

Even without full processing, you can:

  • 🚶 Walk through the model in first person

  • šŸ“ Measure elements

  • 🧭 Take cross-sections

  • šŸ—‚ Browse the model tree

  • šŸ‘€ Click elements to inspect their properties

  • āš™ļø Use many of the interactive model viewing tools

The main difference is: auto-checking and rule matching won’t be available until the file is processed.

šŸ” You Can Always Process It Later

Just return to the file anytime and click ā€œProcess nowā€ā€”we’ll take care of the rest and email you once it’s ready.
