How to re-check a new model version in Plannerly

Upload a new version of a model with the same file name, see which tasks now need checking, and re-run the check against the same requirements.

Contents

TL;DR - Upload the new version with the same file name onto Upload File. When it is ready, a filter on the board shows every task that is Needs checking. Run Check again and the results move to the new version. Plannerly does not compare elements between versions, so every task on that model needs a new check.

Good to know - watch in your language: open the YouTube player settings (the gear icon), then under Subtitles/CC choose your language or use Auto-translate. If an auto-dubbed track is available, you can also switch the spoken voice under Audio track.

Who this is for

People who can manage models can upload a version and run the check. Everyone who can see Verify can use the filter.

Why it matters

Version two arrives the day before the review. Check results belong to the version they were run on, so the earlier results do not tell you anything about the new file. Re-checking against the same requirements keeps every version to the same standard, not only the first one.

Upload the new version

  1. In Verify, open the Work Package with Edit, select Add model(s) and drop the new file onto Upload File. Use the same file name and extension as before; Plannerly then adds it as a new version of the same model.
  2. In the Review files before uploading window, check the version cell (it reads New revision when you hover) and select Upload.
  3. Keep working. A banner reads Viewing the old version while the new one is prepared, and the old version stays open until the new one is ready.

Step 1: in the Add model(s) panel, drop the new file onto Upload File.
Plannerly Review files before uploading window showing the new model file as v002 with the Upload button marked
Step 2: the new file shows as the next version, here v002. Select Upload.

A model added to a Work Package follows the latest version, so the board and the 3D view move to the new one once it is ready.

Find the tasks that need checking

  1. On a board column, select the funnel button. When tasks are out of date its tooltip reads, for example, 3 need checking - open filters.
  2. Under Show only tasks that..., open Model check and tick Needs checking.
Plannerly Verify column filter menu with the Needs checking option under Model check after a new model version
Steps 1 and 2: open the filter button, then tick Needs checking.

Check again

  1. Select Check in the header, then the check-all button, or use Check task on a single card.
  2. The donuts refresh. The results are now stored against the new version.
Plannerly Verify Check popover reading 5 of 5 tasks need checking, with the Check all 5 tasks button marked
Steps 1 and 2: select Check, then the check-all button.

Results for the earlier version stay with that version.

Tip: Nothing compares elements between versions, so do not expect only changed elements to be re-checked. Every task mapped to the model needs a new check, and the same requirements apply to all of them.
Why this matters: Re-checking each version against the same requirements is what makes a review dependable: the answer you give about version two is based on version two.

If it doesn't work

The new file became a separate model instead of a version

The file name or extension was different. Version matching uses the same title and extension, so rename the file to match, upload again, and remove the stray model if you do not need it.

No tasks show as needing a check

The new version may still be preparing; wait for the banner to clear. Also check you have the right Work Package open, because the filter only counts tasks in view.

I can't add a version to an Autodesk Forma model

New versions of a Forma model must be uploaded through your Autodesk Forma project. Plannerly can keep the latest revision ready: it looks about every 6 hours for models used by a Work Package that follows the latest version, when automatic indexing of new revisions is on for that model.

The Check button is missing

You need permission to manage models, and a model in the Work Package.

Common questions

How do I upload a new version of a model in Plannerly?

Upload the new file with the same file name and extension as the existing model. Plannerly adds it as a new version of that model.

Why do all my tasks need checking when only a few elements changed?

Results are stored for each model version and nothing compares elements between versions, so a new version marks every task on that model as needing a check.

Do I need to remap tasks for a new version?

Mapping rules belong to the Work Package, not to one version, and a Work Package follows the latest version. Run the check, then look at each card's mapped element count to confirm the elements were found.

Can I keep working while the new version prepares?

Yes. The old version stays open with a banner until the new one is ready.
