Choose your project's LOD or LOIN standard

Pick the standard your Scope follows - ISO 19650 + LOD, LOD US BIM Forum 2022, Level of Information Need and more - in the project's Settings.

Every Plannerly project follows one project standard. It decides the levels you give each task in Scope - LOD 100 to 500, ISO 19650's Level of Information Need, or your country's own scale - so the whole team uses the same words for how developed each element should be at each milestone.

TL;DR: On the project dashboard, choose Settings, open Project, then Standards, and pick the Project Standard. New projects start on LOD (100, 200, 300, 350, 400, 500).

Choose your project standard

  1. Open the project and choose Settings on the project dashboard (the sliders icon, "Manage project details and settings").
  2. Open the Project tab and go to Standards.
  3. Pick a Project Standard from the list.

The dashboard shows the standard's short name, with a description when you hover over it. Changing it needs permission to manage the project.

The standards you can choose

  • ISO 19650 + LOD (100, 200, 300, 350, 400, 500) - LOD levels for each task, alongside information requirements written to ISO 19650's level of information need.
  • ISO 19650 - Level Of Information Need - for projects that describe what they need as information requirements rather than LOD numbers.
  • LOD US BIM Forum 2022 (100, 200, 300, 350, 400, 500) - the BIMForum's 2022 Level of Development specification.
  • LOD (100, 200, 300, 350, 400, 500) - the default, with LOA 10-50 for as-built at 500.
  • LOD US BIM Forum (200, 300, 350, 400) and LOD US AIA (100, 200, 300, 400, 500).
  • National scales: LOD UK (2, 3, 4, 5, 6), LOD DK (200, 300, 325, 400), LOD BR, LOD CH, LOD PE, ND France, NDI Planbim Chile (NDI-1 to NDI-6) and GID (111-444).
  • None - no levels on tasks at all.

What the standard changes

  • The level picker on each Scope task, and the levels Quick Assign offers, show the standard's names.
  • Information requirements work with every standard. Set out the properties each element needs - its level of information need - in Scope, and check models against them in Verify. See requirements management in Scope.
  • Model progression and delivery matrices are built in Scope from the same tasks - see model progression and delivery matrices.

Agree the standard with your team before you set levels. If you change it later, each task keeps its place on the scale and shows the new standard's name for it, so check the levels still say what you mean.

Questions about project standards

Which standard should I use for an ISO 19650 project?

Choose ISO 19650 - Level Of Information Need when your requirements describe the information each element needs. Choose ISO 19650 + LOD when your client also asks for LOD numbers at each milestone.

What is the difference between LOD and LOIN?

LOD (level of development) is a numbered scale for how far each element is developed. Level of information need, set out in ISO 7817-1 and used by ISO 19650, describes exactly which geometry, information and documents each element needs for its purpose.

Can I set a standard when I create a project?

New projects start on LOD (100, 200, 300, 350, 400, 500). Change it in Settings, under Project and Standards, as soon as the project is created.

Can different projects use different standards?

Yes. The standard is a project setting, so each project can follow the one its contract asks for.
